Is coaching a regulated industry that requires a license or formal education?
Life coaching is a non-regulated industry, so there is no license or degree required. There exists no official accrediting institution or governing body in the life coaching industry. There may be organizations that claim to be an official or legal accrediting body; however, this is false. Therefore, anyone can coach based on their own level of comfort with their chosen training and/or past relevant experience. As long as you are not going outside the scope of coaching, such as practicing therapy (for mental health, for instance) you are free to coach as you wish! It is recommended that any coach who is concerned regarding this matter seek advice from his/her state. Life coaches must be aware of and strictly adhere to the appropriate role of a life coach. Life coaches are not licensed mental health care providers or therapists and must not provide medical advice, engage in patient diagnosis, or treat mental illness or trauma. Also, former therapists may receive legal consequences for practicing as a “life coach” while conducting therapy.
Is Buckingham Coaching Academy approved by ICF?
I’ve been social worker or counselor for a while. Will the courses and strategies be new for me?
I understand your concern. I have been in the field for 22 years, but I have only started learning about the business of social work about 11 years ago. Our courses are designed to promote evolution from a business perspective. You will learn new business trends and strategies that will help you renew and shift your mindset.

I’m still in the idea formation phase for my business. Is this academy for me?
Most definitely. Our launch track was created for the inspiring entrepreneur. The launch courses will help you gain clarity about your business approach, business structure and everything in between.
Can I earn continuing education credit for enrolling?
Yes! Several of our launch and accelerate courses are approved by the National Association of Social Workers. You can earn up to 21 Category II Continuing Education Credits. There’s no additional charge for the CEUs. Only you must do is review the modules, take a short quiz, and boom…you get CEUs!
What are some benefits of taking on-line courses?
The primary benefit of taking on-line courses is centered around convenience. You can learn from the comfort of your home or wherever you like. Also, you can build relationships with social workers from around the world as you emerge in engaging dialogue about business matters and social issues. Furthermore, you will have access to Dr. Buckingham and other experts at the push of a button on your computer. Lastly, you will have access to the closed Facebook group where you will receive support from Dr. Buckingham and others who are committed to building financial prosperity.
How long do I have access to course modules?
Enrollment in the academy offers you 12-month access to courses. After you complete a course you will receive a certificate and will be able to use the PDFs and resources that you download.
How does the tuition payment work? Is it a monthly tuition plan?
You can pay tuition on a monthly basis or make a one-time payment at a discounted rate. If you opt for the payment plan, it is NOT a “monthly tuition” model. It is a way to break up the payments if you cannot pay one lump sum. However, you can purchase the courses separately at a higher price if you do not wish to enroll in the academy. This is option will result loss of academy benefits.
I like the idea of enrolling in a business academy, but I do not have the tuition to invest at this time.
I totally understand. As social workers and counselors we have not be trained to think about or invest in business ventures. Many of us only invest in CEUs sponsored training. Unfortunately, this behavior has caused many of us to struggle in our businesses from a financial perspective. We have historically been undercompensated for the work that we do. We dedicate our lives to helping others, but often cannot afford the things that will enhance our lives. Given this, I challenge you to think about the return on investment.
